Book Launch at Cockpit-Fest 2017

We are pleased to announce that David Gledhill from Horncastle, Lincolnshire will be launching his new book, “Phantom In The Cold War - RAF Wildenrath 1977 to 1992" during Cockpit-Fest 2017.

Published by Pen and Sword the new book will be launched at 1pm on Saturday 17th June, alongside the cockpit of Phantom XV490, which is owned by Mike Davey and displayed at the museum.  XV490 served on both 19 and 92 Squadrons at RAF Wildenrath and is now appropriately resplendent in 92 Squadron colours.

David has also persuaded a number of the contributors, including a former Station Commander, Ali McKay who wrote the Foreword, former Squadron commanders Ken Claxton and Henry Lether, and pilots and navigators who flew the "Mighty Phantom" at Wildenrath during the Cold War to come along.

Not to forget the esteemed groundcrew, a number of former Phantom technicians who kept the jet flying will be there. They will all be around after the launch to sign books and to chat.

In addition to being able to acquire a unique signed copy of the book David has secured a limited number of "Squadron Prints" of the commemorative Phantom XV408, which graces the cover of the new book. During Cockpit-Fest there will be the opportunity to buy copies of this rare print and to have them signed by the various veterans.

David recently made the following comments about the book. “I'm delighted with this book because it brings together so many recollections from those of us who were there about how we flew and fought the Phantom in the Central Region. I hope the gathering of so many former RAF Germany Phantom aircrews will be a unique event.”
