Some points to note when you visit

Following some confusion about this news item, we would like to confirm that the museum is open as normal, but after the recent works visitors just have to be a little bit careful when moving around some parts of our 16 acre site.

Work has now finished on the first phase of our Southfield Development project and we now have a functioning new effluent treatment system.

The new effluent treatment system will help us to improve our toilet / washroom facilities in the future (more news on that to follow very soon). The very last element of the ground-works part of the contract has been put back a few weeks while the ground dries out after the recent heavy rain. As a consequence we still have a few areas of the site that are quite muddy; these have been fenced off and please respect any safety barriers that are in place.

Also take notice of any signage or directions from the museum staff & volunteers as we work towards tidying up these areas.

The main areas affected are over on the Southfield Site, behind the Memorial Garden, and near to the current toilet block. We hope that these temporary muddy conditions will not spoil your visit to the museum.

When the weather and ground conditions allow our groundsman will be planting some trees behind the Memorial Garden, which while improve the view down into the Southfield Site; this will be followed by seeding the soil bunds that have been created in that part of the site.
