An airframe assessment is currently underway for a programme of conservation work on the Saab Viggen maritime reconnaissance / strike fighter that is displayed in Hangar 2 at the museum. This will result in a Conservation Plan being established for the aircraft.
Our limited Royal Swedish Air Force reference material for the Viggen has now been expanded significantly as a result of a recent appeal for information and we would like to thank everyone for their input with regard to the paint references / specifications for the ‘splinter pattern’ camouflage markings worn by our AJSH 37 variant.
Preliminary cleaning and detailed survey work is now underway on the Viggen; ideas on sourcing matt paints to matched colour references would be helpful. We will release a further progress report in due course. So many thanks for the information that has been provided. As the work gets under way our Twitter feed will use the following hashtag for the project #ViggenValet
This work is due to form part of our wider winter 2017/18 programme of work that will be carried out at various undercover locations around the museum site including the workshop. As a consequence views / access to the Viggen may be restricted during the winter months.
