Restoration Work Update-01
As promised in May we are aiming to bring you some information updates about some of our restoration projects that are currently underway around the site. This provides a snapshot of what work is underway and is by no means everything that is in progress.
The team that was working on the Jaguar repaint has now moved on to the Lightning T.5. Given the successful silver paint application to the Ashton; a painted 56 Sqn scheme has been selected for XS417 – as you will see from the main photograph large sections of the airframe have already had primer applied.
The Ashton has received its final coat of silver paint. Work is now in hand to apply a special set of commemorative markings to the pressure bulkhead to acknowledge the important research and development work undertaken by the six airframe that were built.
Inside the Hastings the cockpit floor re-covering has progressed well. In addition to the main cockpit crew seats that are being refurbished, work is now underway on the various instrument panels at the different crew positions. Externally, the Hastings is still receiving attention with the pressure washer, reaching those more challenging parts of the fuselage.
The Cessna 310 has had most of the fresh top coats of paint applied and work is underway to set-out the markings.
Work continues on the Gannet with the application of the various markings to the fuselage sides.
A major tidy up is underway in our onsite Workshop, which will allow some new equipment to be installed and provide a better use of the available space for future undercover restoration projects.
