Museum Access Advice

Please be aware that it can sometimes be rather busy around the local area, so make sure that you allow sufficient time when coming to and leaving the museum.

This often applies when events like the Antique & Collectors Fair, Autojumbles and Truckfest are being hosted on the Showground, when these are taking place we suggest that you allow extra time for your journey, both arriving and departing.

On all such occasions (unless otherwise advised) the museum will be open as normal but there may be extra traffic to negotiate your way through to get there.

From past experience we suggest that the best access route to the museum is by approaching our site off Drove Lane from the A17 bypass direction.

Please do not be put off by any event stewards who might say that the museum is closed – this will not be the case and just be politely persistent with them!

Opening times are 10am to 4pm, with last admission to the museum itself at 3pm and last admission to the Museum Shop for shoppers is 3.40pm.

We also now have 8 parking bays allocated for Blue Badge holders and two for parent & toddlers and these are located adjacent to the entrance to the Museum Shop - all are clearly marked and the gravel surface has been minimised to improve access.

Please be aware that there may be increased car transporter movements at the neighbouring Car Auction site in and around the Drove Lane entrance and former taxiway areas.

We have recently been advised that one of the missing brown & white museum road signs on the junction of the A1 (North) exit slip road and the A46 road junction at the Brownhills roundabout has now been replaced, which should help museum visitors not to get lost at this junction.

Highways England is monitoring the situation and additional signage may be installed at a later date. We still advise you to follow the following directional advice:“For people travelling from the A1 northbound, please take the left hand lane as you approach the junction and follow the A46 signs north towards Lincoln and then take the right turn off the dual carriageway at the A1133 / Drove Lane roundabout.”

One final bit of advice please do not rely on Sat Nav postcode guidance as it will most likely lead you astray!
