Location - how to find us

Newark [Notts & Lincs] Air Museum Ltd, Drove Lane, Newark, Notts, NG24 2NY

The museum is located two miles north east of Newark on Trent partially on the Winthorpe Showground.

By Car: The museum is easy to find from the A1, A46, A17, A1133 roads and the Newark bypass, with ample free on-site car and coach parking. For people travelling from the A1 and A46 routes we recommend that you follow the A46 signs north towards Lincoln and then take the right turn off the dual carriageway at the A1133 / Drove Lane roundabout – following the brown and white air museum signs. N.B. Please do not rely on Sat Nav postcode directions to find the museum and do not follow the "Newark Attraction" signs off the main roads.

Highways England is monitoring the situation and additional signage may be installed at a later date. We still advise you to follow the following directional advice:

“For people travelling from the A1 northbound, please take the left hand lane as you approach the junction and follow the A46 signs north towards Lincoln and then take the right turn off the dual carriageway at the A1133 / Drove Lane roundabout.”

A car storage compound has been created on the Showground land at the end of Vulcan Way. This fenced compound is on the western side of the approach road down to the air museum entrance and our car parking area, which is on the eastern side (left hand side as you drive along to the museum).

Some visitors have raised minor concerns that this gives the appearance that the museum is very busy, with full car parking. This is not the case and visitor should pass along the old perimeter track towards the museum. As these new arrangements become fully operational we will be seeking approval to improve the signage down to the air museum.

Visitors should also be aware that there may be increased car transporter movements at the neighbouring Car Auction site, in and around the Drove Lane entrance and also along the approach road / former taxiway areas.

We also now have 8 parking bays allocated for Blue Badge holders and these are located adjacent to the entrance to the Museum Shop – all are clearly marked and the gravel surface has been minimised to improve access.

Please be advised that you should not leave valuable items in your car when parking at the museum, and certainly do not leave any items on view - as opportunist thieves sometimes operate in the local area.

Visitors should also be aware that the double gates on the taxiway approach to the museum and on Drove Lane are both locked when the museum closes. Any unattended vehicles parked in these areas will be locked in when the gates are secured.

By Bus: Due to unforeseen circumstance the previous bus service has been suspended; you can use the Lincoln bus service and alight at the A1133 roundabout, and then walk along Drove Lane to the museum [approx. 0.5 of a mile].

By Rail: The museum is located approximately 2.5 miles from the Newark Castle Station and approximately 1.75 miles from the Newark Northgate Station, but there is no bus service that calls at the museum. Local taxi details can be obtained by contacting the museum. Please be aware that if you try to walk to the museum you do have to cross several major roads - please be careful!

By Helicopter: The ex RAF Winthorpe runways are no longer in operation for aircraft, but we can accommodate pre-arranged military and civilian helicopter landings on the western end of our Southfield Site. Please call 01636 707170 to request a set of Instructions for arranging such a visit.
