Visiting Us in 2022 & KEY FACTS

INTRODUCTION Once again our reopening was organised to comply with Covid-Secure guidelines, and is reviewed on a regular basis; the facilities and services we provide may be modified or suspended to comply with situations that may arise.

After consultation with our staff, museum members and some members of the public the museum trustees have decided to still encourage social distancing and other Covid-19 mitigation measures. These measures are outlined below and are in line with requests from the government and good practice guidelines issued by various Visitor Attraction bodies.

As throughout the pandemic you DO NOT NEED TO PRE-BOOK to make a visit to the museum. We will remain open 7 days per week including Bank Holidays: 10am to 5pm, with last admission being at 4pm.

Visitors will no longer be compelled to provide Track & Trace information, but we will encourage people to still scan in using the NHS App. Our current aim is to reintroduce normal museum opening on a gradual basis. We have re-established the original layouts in Hangar 1 & 2 and removed the one way systems. Eventually we will also reopen the Small Objects Building, but with strong recommendation that everyone wears face coverings due to the enclosed nature of this particular building.

In the museum Café we will gradually reintroduce more tables, but this will be monitored closely and at busier time visitors will be encouraged to use the external picnic tables.

Visitors with Motability needs should be aware that some exhibits are displayed on grass and these can be difficult to access during wet conditions – we are sorry about this but please be aware if you plan to visit. During the most recent Lockdown there has been an increase in wildlife activity on site, which has resulted in some areas of the site becoming more uneven. We are working to rectify this situation but visitors will need to exercise more caution when walking around.

Revised admission rates will apply: Adults £10.00, Over 65s £9.00, Children £5.00 and Family ticket [2 adults & 3 children] £27.00. If you are able to consider GIFT AIDED Admission it would provide a huge boost to our fund raising efforts in these challenging times. These rates will be increasing on 2 January 2022.

Museum Café

To comply with the regulations, there will be a reduced amount of socially distanced indoor seating  available in the Café. The picnic benches outside will be accessible but visitors should aim to comply with the regulations. The food options will include sandwiches; toasties; paninis; cakes; snacks; hot & cold drinks.

Museum Shop

This will be open as normal, for all of those aviation purchases such as aircraft kits, modelling supplies; books etc. – we recommend that you check in advance if you have a specific item that you wish to purchase, as some supplier are struggling to provide us with requested stock.

Opening Times

Our revised opening times for the time being are 10.00am - 5.00pm (last admission at 4.00pm).

The museum café will close at 4.15pm.

The museum shop will close at the same time as the museum, with last admissions for shoppers into the shop being 20 minutes before closing time

The health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our highest priority. We want to ensure you feel safe and comfortable when visiting and will do everything we can with heightened cleaning regimes, social distancing and capacity restrictions if necessary.

We will be working to the Visit Britain, "We’re Good To Go Industry Standard" that stated that they are satisfied that our site is indeed good to go.

MAKING A VISIT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS / ANSWERS

What are your opening hours?

We are now opening from 10.00am – 5.00pm. Times are subject to change; however, our website will be updated. A revised last admission time of 4.00pm will be in place for the present time.

What about toilet facilities?

Increased cleaning regimes are in place. Visitors will be asked not enter areas whilst cleaning takes place. Please ensure you use toilet facilities as promptly as possible and leave them in a clean manner as you’d expect to find them yourselves. Do not allow children to use facilities on their own. Some cubicles may be closed to maintain distancing; these will be clearly marked.

Hand Sanitisation

We have hand sanitiser stations around the museum, and would also recommend you bring your own so you can use whilst walking around our site. Although sanitiser is handy, it does not replace a good hand washing hygiene regime. Please follow the advice of the UK Government, NHS and PHE by washing hands for a minimum of 20 seconds before eating, drinking and after visiting the toilet facilities.

How long can I stay at the museum?

We have no restriction on the length of time you can stay with us, but we please ask you to comply with the rules. If any member of your party feels unwell during your visit please leave immediately, do not come in contact with any museum staff, volunteers or other visitors. Please call us once safely in your car (whilst not driving) to tell us about your visit so we can log, track, trace and implement any additional hygiene requirements that might be necessary.

Is the cafe open?

Yes, and the menu offers: hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, toasties, paninis, cakes.

  • Please respect social distancing whilst queuing for your food
  • To help us comply with Government guidelines to help our staff stay safe you should ideally take home any waste packaging rather than disposing of it on site in our four green wheelie bins (our normal waste bins have been temporarily removed to comply with Government Covid-Secure Guidelines for Heritage Sites)
  • Outdoor tables seating areas are provided along with grass areas
  • Surfaces and contact points have heightened hygiene regimes

Yes, it is and on most visits you will enter and exit the site through the Shop. You will find signage in place, entry/exit points in place and screens at our till (like you now find at supermarkets and other shops). There is also an optional route if you only want to shop. You may need to queue for a short while before entering whilst we monitor numbers. Please only pick up items that you want to purchase to help eliminate possible transmission of the virus.
